At 20 years of age, I took the opportunity to live out a childhood dream and became a flight attendant for Virgin Australia. During my 12 year career in the aviation industry, I also graduated from La Trobe University with a Bachelor of Arts with first class honours and a Masters in Information Management at RMIT. In 2014, I undertook a month-long industry placement at the University of Southern California, working in the USC HMH Foundation Moving Image Archive. Under the tutelage of Archivist Dino Everett, I carried out repairs on film prints, catalogued items and also learnt to prepare 16mm and 35mm films for screenings. This was such an invaluable experience that I returned in 2016 and had the opportunity to travel to cinemas that had closed down to appraise abandoned collections and collect and accession appropriate items. After graduating from the Master of Information Management at RMIT with distinction, I worked in the ABC Archives Collections team on a contract as the Video Tape Librarian. During my tenure, I also worked on records management projects during ABC’s move from Elsternwick to Southbank. I developed great professional relationships at the ABC, which led to my current role as News Librarian at The Nine Network. Working at Nine for more than 7 years has been very rewarding, not only for the experience that I have gained as a Librarian, but I have diversified my skills in television broadcasting and production. I am a trained autocue operator, with experience working in-studio, live outside broadcasts and the Australian Open broadcast. I have also been the secondary Weather Producer for the past 4 years, with weekly shifts when the full time producer is off. This is a critical position that involves writing scripts, creating graphics and directing the segment on-air from the control room.In addition to my professional roles, I have been a co-organiser of the Melbourne Horror Film Society (MHFS) since 2016; am a regular co-host on the Good Movie Monday podcast; have appeared on Triple R radio program Primal Screen; was previously the Operations Coordinator of the Monster Fest film festival; and worked as a Visitor Services Officer in both galleries and cinemas at ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image).In 2021, I was asked by the Australian Society of Archivists to contribute a video for World Day for Audiovisual Heritage, that can be viewed on ASA’s YouTube channel. I have also hosted a cardiParty and contributed a video discussing WFH and in the office during lockdown for popular industry group, newCardigan.
