I was the classroom teacher for a class of 2/3 grade students. My primary responsibilities were to develop and teach lesson plans to meet both Massachusetts state content standards and the school’s project and nature based learning goals. With the multi-age group, I differentiated learning to meet individual student needs. Classroom management was a crucial part of my work; I maintained a supportive environment while setting consistent standards for student work and behavior. Family, student, and staff partnerships were very important to achieving social, emotional, and learning outcomes. I documented student learning using the Kaymbu app and developed a strong curriculum and lesson plan documentation strategy.

In this multifaceted role, I developed and led enrichment and library lessons for classes pre-K through 6th grade during weekly class visits, similar to a "special". I supervised the work of one other staff person, collaborating with them and department managers to fulfill the goals of this unique partnership between the Worcester Public Library and the Worcester Public Schools. In the afternoon and on weekends I supervised the library branch for public use, supporting youth and others in computer/technology needs, accessing library resources, and helping in a variety of ways. During remote learning, I offered read aloud videos, convened a trivia group, and helped the program pivot to meet the needs of teachers and students I also partnered with classroom teachers and administrators to coordinate library use and to support the overall needs of the school.

In this role, I assisted patrons will library account needs, payments, general inquiries, etc. Another primary responsibility was to retrieve books from stacks for hold requests. Overseeing the operation of the automated book return system was another important aspect of this work. I also worked with the team to enforce regulations and create a welcoming and secure environment, quickly gaining skills and responsibilities in these areas.

I used media and community building strategies to increase the visibility and reach of NOFA/Mass’s work, educating and advocating for organic farming and food. I coordinated production of weekly enewsletters, video, social media and organizational publicity for a variety of projects, including a seven state regional conference.

I facilitated child-directed, inquiry-based learning and play and developed lesson plans and activities for preschool and homeschool programs. Children and teens with special needs also were given opportunities to visit the farm; I worked to ensure successful experiences for them and their program staff. I trained, supported, and collaborated with participants in the NeighborMedia citizen journalism program to create and share engaging media about the Cambridge community. I mentored teen video producers and provided tours for children’s groups. I also coordinated CCTV's public computer lab, training and supervising intern staff and managing the lab facility. I staffed reception desk for busy community media center, answering phones, checking out equipment and fielding questions.
