Initiated Volunteering Project for Surrey Fire and Rescue Service Designed and implement strategies, policies and plans to develop Surrey Fire Volunteer Service and the role of Fire Volunteers in line with the Public Safety Plan 2011-2020Established and managed appropriate recruitment, training packages and ongoing support for volunteers.Identified areas in the community where specific volunteer schemes could be introduced to support operational personnel within the county of Surrey.Developed, maintained and managed all Social Media www.facebook.com/SurreyFireVolunteer and @Volunteer_SFVS (Twitter) promoting volunteering and encouraging community feedback, engagement and participation. Initiated the set up of specific volunteering website (www.surreyfirevolunteer.org) with hidden ‘back site’ area for volunteer integration and sharing of information. Utilising skillsbase of existing volunteers.Created and maintain links with the community, particularly in under represented areas including the Asian and Gypsy Traveler Community.Continuously created and monitored new volunteering roles ensuring volunteers were representative of all communities. Created a partnership with EmployAbility, providing volunteering opportunities to disabled people. Provided guidance, support and advice to other UK and European Fire Services on Volunteer recruitment,legislation, strategy and management

I educated members of the public in home fire safety, this included several high profile targeted campaigns, one of which generated over 600 homes having a home fire safety vist over a period of four weeks I also set up links with the Asian Community, completing visits to over 300 properties where the householder was of asian ethnicity, these visits were extremley successful and the Iman of the Mosque subsequently invited me to give Fire Prevention advice on the mosque radio in order that all of the community could benefit and adapt fire safety advice.I also worked with a colleage at delivering safety advice to the gypsy/traveller community which was very well received.A large proportion of the work was working with elderly and vulnerable people, visiting many sheltered accomodations in order to ensure the residents were aware of risks and worked with them to provide equipment where a standard smoke alarm alone proved unsuitable.Educating children was fundamental in fire safety, the children are receptive and feedback information to their parents, I therefore worked with the schools and assisted with Junior Citizens to educate children on the consequences of fire and how to keep themselves and their families safe
