Everyone has a story........I help teenagers to reflect on their lives and turn their story, accomplishments and aspirations into a compelling, cohesive and authentic college application. When I started volunteering as a tutor in a college prep class at my daughter's high school in 2014, I never imagined that a few years later I would be working as a college advisor in the high school AVID program, and opening my own boutique college counseling company. For those who know me this didn't come as much of a surprise. After retiring as a commercial real estate portfolio manager to raise my two daughters in 2006, I used my research, analytical and communications skills to serve in the public schools. From room parent to art appreciation teacher to PTO President, and most recently as member of the high school Governance Council, I have always found opportunities to learn and grow while spending time with students and collaborating with parents and administrators. Helping students navigate the college application process felt like my calling. I completed my Certificate in College Counseling from UCLA, became a Professional Member of the IECA (Independent Educational Consultants Association), and continue to take advantage of opportunities to tour colleges and educate myself about the ever more competitive and evolving college application process. Since 2014 I have worked with over 200 students of all academic abilities, from those who scored in the top 1% on standardized tests to those who struggled to break 900 on the SAT. It’s very exciting to help students apply and gain acceptance to selective schools, and I find it just as rewarding to help less confident and consistent students present themselves in the best light and gain acceptance to schools that they believed were out of reach. My ultimate goal is to break down a complicated and stressful process into manageable steps, and find the “best fit” school for every student. When I’m not working with students or doing college research I’m walking with my friends, reading historical fiction, watching design shows, and exploring real estate investment opportunities with my husband.
