About Belinda (Long) Ivey, Mfa
I am an artist who found my passion for design when a college professor gave me two books: Tim Harrow’s The Newspaper Designer’s Handbook and the 15th Annual Society of News Design’s Best of News Design. My journey began as a journalism student at the University of Florida and has sling-shot me to the page design and graphic design departments of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Baltimore Sun, the Arizona Republic and the South Florida Sun Sentinel. I became a multiple award-winning graphic designer along the way.I co-founded my creative agency, KarBel Multimedia, in 2008 while working at the Sun-Sentinel. I eventually left the newspaper industry in 2011 to focus on KarBel Multimedia full time. At KarBel, I have driven visual design solutions for brands such as Google, Kaufman Rossin, Stand Up To Cancer, American Academy of Pediatrics, and Microsoft. I have shared my expertise as a guest speaker and given numerous webinars and workshops at organizations and colleges across the country. I am also a part-time lecturer at the University of Miami’s School of Communication, where I have taught graphic design, multimedia design, infographics, and web design to undergraduate students. While at the Sun Sentinel I began creating motion graphics to tell visual stories for the newspaper. In 2012, I decided to go back to school to get my master's degree in Motion Media Design. I now hold a Masters in Fine Arts in Motion Media Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design.I have continued to developed my design skills throughout my career. This has made me a very well-rounded visual storyteller with skills to produce, manage and teach across multiple platforms.
