The King's Fund is a charity that seeks to understand how the health system in England can be improved. Using that insight, we help to shape policy, transform services and bring about behaviour change. As a senior consultant in the Leadership Directorate my work focuses on directing organisational development projects, devising leadership programmes and delivering transformational development opportunities for individual healthcare leaders and networks of emerging and senior leaders.

The most pressing contemporary challenges - local, national and international – are frequently characterised by complexity, difference, disruption and conflict. The Birmingham Leadership Institute exists to research and develop the leadership required to make progress on them.BLI Honorary Fellows are practitioners who actively engage with and participate in the work of the BLI because they are committed to its mission and share the values. Honorary Fellows make a substantive contribution to developing the leadership of others, and to learn from and with an attractively diverse group of peers. Honorary Fellows hold or have held leadership roles in their own field and/or have a particular area of expertise, skill or experience that is relevant to the work of the BLI.Being active in many sectors and contexts, BLI Honorary Fellows help to ensure that the Institute is enabling responsible leadership that remains relevant to the needs of the people and places we serve.

I coordinate leadership work in HSMC and work on our national and regional leadership and OD programmes and interventions, as well as leading on pan-University collaborations on leadership in health care. Programme director for the national Aspiring Directors in Public Health programme, and the Clinical Executive Fast-Track Scheme. Design and deliver systems leadership programmes for senior leaders, OD leads and integrated leadership teams in the West Midlands; former Cohort Director on the NHS Leadership Academy Elizabeth Garrett Anderson programme; Set advisor on the NHS LA Nye Bevan programme. Contributing to a range of consultancy projects and leadership development programmes and initiatives at the Health Services Management Centre with particular focus on systems leadership and integration across health and social care and wider health sector boundaries.

Co-led on the LCFT Values programme, sat on Audit Committee, deputy Chair, standing in for the Chair as required.

Working with NHS organisations to support transformational change initiatives including service developments, structural reorganisation, partnership and collaborative leadership approaches. Programme Director on major change programmes including benefits realisation for major northern hospital reconfiguration, development of integrated information systems architecture for Inner North-west London care collaborative and process reorganisation for the Whole Systems Demonstrator programme.

Leading the development of commercially-focused partnerships between Pfizer and its NHS partners, to deliver better outcomes for patients and added value for partners.

Coaching, training and supporting NHS organisations to develop individual and organisational potential

Taught medics and health and social care professionals on Critical Management in Health & Social Care

Took the housing association from inception to becoming the leading independent provider of services for people with mental health problems in the area. Led for CO the closure of Cane Hill hospital and the re-provision of services for 60 people in the community, including managing one of the first large-scale public sector TUPE transfers in the UK. Achieved Investor in People status after two years of operations.

First and sole employee, led the growth of the Housing Association to manage several supported and staffed houses for people with mental health problems, with 30+ staff and highly-successful community care for people who had lived in Banstead Hospital.
