In my role as managing editor for the Minnesota Daily, I help manage the newsroom by first meeting with editors every week to hear and offer feedback on reporters' pitches. From this point, I keep track of article deadlines and newspaper coverage to ensure newsworthy content is being published in a timely manner. Additionally, I read through submitted articles, checking on factual correctness, grammar and abidance with AP style guidelines before submitting articles to the copy desk and once again before publication.

As a senior staff reporter, I worked on a cycle of pitching two stories every week. I reported on the campus activities desk where I covered student activism and gained experience reporting on campus protests. In this role, I got accustomed to working under tight deadlines, often submitting articles on protests within the hour of getting back from these events. Additionally, I worked on a seconding committee for the paper where I fact checked article content and provided preliminary edits to submitted articles in accordance with AP style guidelines.

As a reporting intern for the Rochester Post Bulletin, I became accustom to the fast-paced work environment of a professional publication and advanced my knowledge of different writing formats by reporting a range of pieces from breaking news briefs and profiles to features. By reporting on regional events, I developed strong community connections across the paper's coverage area. Throughout my internship experience, I worked to develop story-telling skills as well as more general principles of news reporting.
