Umar Bello is happily married and blessed with children. In 2022, he was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Management (Finance) at the Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja, Nigeria. In 2019, he was awarded MPhil in Management with distinction at Nile University of Nigeria. A BSc Hons Accounting at the University of Abuja, Gwagwalada, and a Master of Arts (MA) in Islamic Banking, Finance and Management at the University of Gloucestershire, United Kingdom, in 2004 and 2012, respectively. He has received several awards, scholarships, and commendations from school and on the job.He has over 18 years of working experience in Anti-money Laundering/Countering Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT), criminal/financial crime investigation on money laundering and terrorism financing (ML/TF), financial/fraud analysis, Intelligence analysis, that have led to several recoveries and court convictions. He was Ag. Head of Capacity Development Division of the EFCC Academy. The Division ensures the designing and delivery of training for EFCC Staff and other stakeholders' capacity development, developing curriculum, designing, coordination, delivery, and updating training manuals. He is the Head of the Strategic Intelligence Analysis Unit and was Head of Special Investigation Team 2 Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).He was trained by organisations like the FBI as a Hostage/Crisis Negotiator, Commonwealth training on Intelligence-Driven Investigation Discipline, UNODC training on Confidential Human Sources and AML/CFT training, DFID Justice for All Capacity development programme, National Crime Agency (NCA) training on criminal intelligence analysis; Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) training on Tactical Intelligence Analysis; and BKA Federal Criminal Police Germany training on fighting corruption.In 2018 and 2019, Bello was a project manager and expert among the project management team for the Intergovernmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA) project on Strengthening Anti-Money Laundering Capacities in West Africa (SAMWA) capacity-building programme for the ECOWAS countries held in Nigeria.Bello is a member of professional bodies, which includes the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Texas (ACFE), the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators, Abuja (ICMC), and the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN). He is also a member of the Institute of Islamic Banking and Insurance, London. Bello has several publications in indexed and peer-reviewed international Academic Journals.
