Being an engaged scholar, I connect research, education and practice of entrepreneurship. My research focuses on entrepreneurial processes and thinking, both in new ventures and in existing companies. I study development and growth of ventures across a variety of contexts, the capabilities needed to achieve viability of these ventures, and the instruments that help individuals, educational institutions and organizations develop these capabilities. I continue building more understanding of the process of knowledge-intensive initiative and organization development, its (individual, structural, and process) micro-foundations, and the support systems and activities that nourish them (accelerators, ecosystems). Over the past 10 years, I have been educating business and technology (medical sciences, biomedical engineering) students in entrepreneurship. I have co-developed, organized, and taught over 15 different curricular and extracurricular (university-wide) courses and events. This experience allows me to be confident with both, large and small groups, at Bsc, Msc, PhD and executive levels. Both, online or offline I strive to deliver an interactive and enriching experience. I also mentor individual Master and PhD projects. Beyond traditional classroom teaching, I design and organize educational and research-oriented events, including workshops, bootcamps, summer schools, and conferences, leveraging my organizational skills, adaptability, and extensive network. My international project experience includes Latin America, Europe, India, and China, with significant involvement in EIT Health and Erasmus+ programs.I stood at the origins of the UG Center of Entrepreneurship and a business accelerator VentureLab North at the University of Groningen. I am actively involved with startups and existing (family) businesses in the region and internationally, both directly and through various committees (NWO, King Willem I Prize).
