Biologist, PhD. I am currently research associate at the Immuno-oncology and Immunotherapy Unit at the Research Institute Hospital 12 de Octubre (Madrid, Spain). I performed my PhD studies at the Immunology Department of Hospital Universitario Puerta de Hierro (Madrid, Spain), focused on the development of a novel strategy of immunotherapy of cancer based on the endogenous secretion of bispecific antibodies by gene-modified cells, obtaining my PhD degree by Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 2003. Then, I conducted postdoctoral training at the Hematology Department, Hospital Clínico Universitario de Salamanca (Spain), studying the effect of novel drugs as T-cell immunosuppressants and their potential role in graft versus host disease (GVHD) prophylaxis (2004-2010). I became a senior investigator at the Cellular Therapy Lab (2010-2017; Hematology Department, Hospital Universitario de Salamanca, Spain), where I continued my research on GVHD prophylaxis and on the study of the immunomodulatory role of mesenchymal stromal cells. In April 2018 I joined the Cancer Immunotherapy Unit, headed by Dr. Luis Álvarez Vallina, at Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre (Madrid, Spain) to work in the development of STAb (endogenous secretion of T cell-redirecting bispecific antibodies) strategies for cancer immunotherapy.In 2022 I became main co-founder and CSO of STAb Therapeutics, a spin-off from Instituto de Investigación Hospital 12 de Octubre (imas12), established to bring our cancer therapies to patients.
