Born in 1950 in Liège, Belgium, Benoit Michel graduated as a mechanical engineer from ULg in 1976. He worked seven years at the CRIF (now Sirris) R&D laboratory where he developedthe "Electra", an electric car prototype in 1977. He co-founded “Neurones”, one of the first 3D cartoon studios in Europe in 1989. After that, he switched to R&D project management in telecom¬munications, human-machine interaction, digital cinema, and multimedia in private companies and at UCL (Université catholique de Louvain, Belgium), successively managing the SIMILAR network of excellence on multimodal interfaces, the EDCINE project on enhanced digital cinema, the 3D Media research project focusing on stereoscopic and 3D imaging. From 2011 to 2015, he helped the "iMagX" medical imaging project improve the way 3D images are driving IBA proton therapy machines to cure cancer.From 2016, he is a full time independent consultant, helping private companies on Big Data, Augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) and Internet of Things (IoT) research projects, as well as the PiLab laboratory at UCL.A long time fan of electric cars, he follows closely the emergence of electromobility.His last book "La voiture électrique" in out now in French (www.lavoitureelectrique.xyz).
