Ben Addy is the founding Director of Moxon Architects. He is an award winning architect with experience across sectors and particular expertise in projects involving the creation of new public infrastructure. Having established Moxon in 2004, he has cultivated a reputation for technical achievement, aesthetic versatility and an inquisitive, collaborative design process.Ben was elected to the Royal Scottish Academy in 2020 and was the recipient of the RIAS Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award in 2022.Under his leadership, Moxon has secured a wide variety of major clients, including HS2 Limited, Hauser & Wirth and Transport Scotland. Each of his built projects, ranging from product design to large scale infrastructure, represents a bespoke response to client aspirations, user expectations, technical requirements and context. Ben has significant experience in public infrastructure design with key projects in London, Scotland and abroad. He gained professional recognition early on, being named to the Architects’ Journal / Corus top “40 under 40” in 2004.Since then the practice has received numerous national and international awards for design, construction excellence and conservation, including being named both Infrastructure Practice of the Year and Scottish Architectural Practice of the Year in 2019 and 2021.For nine years, Ben also ran a Degree Unit in Architectural Design at the Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment, UCL where he encouraged exploration of real world design challenges and construction methods. Ben’s former students include recipients of the RIBA Undergraduate Medal, the RIBA Dissertation Medal, RIBA Serjeant Award and the UCL Donaldson Medal. He has lectured at universities throughout the UK and Europe, and has sat on the jury of a number of architectural competitions including the Civic Trust Awards, RIBA Awards and the Scottish Design Awards. He is an External Examiner at the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee.Outside of practice Ben is a Director of the Cairngorms Trust and an active member of the Braemar Mountain Rescue Team. His landscape photography has been published by Scottish Mountaineering Press, Phaidon and the Financial Times.
