As a hospitalist I act as a primary care provider for those that are admitted to the hospital. I treat patients that are admitted to the hospital with acute medical conditions while also managing their chronic medical issues. I perform medical intake and discharge of patient's coming/leaving the hospital by doing a full history and physical examination with the needed documentation. I perform daily rounding on patient's that are in the hospital. Providing continued medical care and necessary adjustments to acute needs that may arise and work towards stabilizing them so they may return home or to a rehab facility. I am currently on several committes including Fairview compensation committee, Neuro committe, Delirium committee, and patient satisfaction.

Fairview Southdale developed and approved a site specific APP Council/Committee that mirrored the University of MN APP Council/Committee. This is the inaugural year and after submitting my application I was selected as a representative.

Since the opening of the Popp Chronic Care Center and Observation Unit my role as Lead APP grew to include Observation Unit Lead. This role involves close monitoring of length of stay for patients under Observation status. Working closely with Nurse Manager and other Leads to develop strategies to help facilitate timely discharges. Development of inclusion/exclusion criteria for Observation patients specific for the unit. Communication among my Hospitalist colleagues to ensure changes are understood and overall understanding of the Observation Unit Goals. I have also become a member of the Utilization Review Committee which helps with looking at the length of stay of patients as well as the evolving diagnosis that are considered Observation status.

A position developed out of a need to unify the Hospitalist APP voice. The role initially was to act as a point person to interact with those supervising and making decisions for the Hospitalist Service. The role evolved to include building the APP schedules. As the hospital itself has grown and built Popp Chronic Care Center and Observation Unit my responsibility also grew. I became the Observation Unit lead. When the Hospitalist Service incorporated the House (RRT/Codes) service for the hospital I was a part of developing the APP run House team that is in place since January 2018.

I had been approached by the Lead Hospitalist and Informatics providers to perform internal audits of Epic InBasket Results. The focus was to reach out to those providers that had not cleared/viewed the results and work with them in reducing these numbers.
