Owner & manager of three simultaneous related projects - a full-featured 3D game engine, a level editor for that engine, and a game ("Escape Lizards") using that engine. Responsible for design and planning of entirety of all three, as well as the software implementation.Planned and implemented the 3D game engine using formal planning tools set up by myself (e.g. Atlassian suite). Engine included full test suite, source-level documentation, and higher-level documentation hosted on a wiki.Engine implementation required use of advanced-level performance concepts as well as interoperation between managed (C#) and unmanaged (C++) libraries. The large codebase also necessitated strict code conventions and writing APIs to a consistently high standard.The game itself required successful co-ordination of a small team of mixed disciplines (including visual artist, musician/sound engineer, intern programmer, etc.). Regular team communication was required as well as a solid initial design document in order to get a thematically consistent result delivered on time.

Defence firm specializing in using fibreoptic laser technology for continuous perimeter surveillance.Sole owner of software rewrite for hardware interface and data/control abstraction layer used by every other product at the company. Role involved creating a managed API to expose incoming data (up to 4Gbps) over 1 to 4 ethernet connections from laser "interrogator" hardware, providing an opaque abstraction over multiple generations and versions of hardware. Worked closely with off-site and on-site non-software teams to cater to requirements for the new rewrite.Also responsible for paralellizing + improving performance of various DSP and threat detection algorithms. Reduced runtime for a CFAR (constant-false-alarm-rate) algorithm for a given amount of data from ~40s to ~7s; making it viable for realtime analysis.Helped document and improve existing 1M LOC+ codebase while working in a larger team (10+).
