As the recognized enterprise expert for Reference Data, the role is designed to unite responsibility with authority. Charter member of the Data Governance team in the Enterprise Data Office (EDO). The EDO Data Governance team was created as a Second Line of Defense entity within the Risk Management Organization targeted at creating, implementing, and subsequently maturing the Data Governance and Data Steward environment at BB&T. In addition to key leadership in the creation of the overall Data Governance program, I had accountability for the creation and execution of an oversight framework for the Data Governance practices being implemented, and for the Data Management practices already in existence (including Metadata Management, Data Quality profiling, Master Data Management (MDM), Data Retention, Data Provisioning and Data Consumption). The oversight framework included technology audits targeted at assessing the appropriate use and security of various information management tools.Ongoing oversight and governance activity included a process for identifying, collecting, quality testing, and maintaining the KDEs (Key Data Elements) critical for operational success. KDE management involved the creation of full data lineage and the collection of both business and technical metadata.Our key mandate was to balance the requirements of operating in a highly regulated, risk-aware environment with the needs of a data driven organization.Additionally, I served as the primary owner of the RCSA (Risk Control Self-Assessment) function, and in partnership with the Operational Risk Management group, created and conducted the Process-to-Risk assessment for the Enterprise Data Office. Utilizing an Archer based platform, this function focused on identifying risks and testing their associated controls, which is critical to the success of a self-assessment based risk environment.

Ultimately, I was responsible for the security and data quality within multiple data environments and maintained a high level of expertise around the data to ensure that it was provisioned, protected, and consumed properly.
