Managing and running the arboricultural arm of the business, undertaking all arboricultural services to a range of local authorities and private individuals. Management of a team of arborists, undertaking mainly private/domestic tree surgery work in Haslemere, Surrey.Providing advice to private individuals and councils, covering a large range of arboricultural consultancy including:Local Authority street tree surveys, installation of an arboricultural computerised management systemIndividual Visual Tree Assessment (VTA) inspections and reportsMortgage reportsTrees, in relation to construction sites - British Standard (BS5837) Tree Protection Order (TPO) reviews.Staff management of directly employed staff, sub-contractors and a consortium of contractors, across multiple projects. My remit extended to keeping work logs, presenting updates, and advising clients regarding continued development of projects.Work procurement, contract management, and relationship management and development with employers and contract managers.

Providing leadership and direction to the Tree Service, to ensure delivery of the council’s objectives and aims, through agreed Service Plans and in accordance with statutory requirements, national & industry standards and all Council standards and procedures. Responsibility for and management of the Borough’s 27,000 street trees, and an estimated 22,000 park trees. Extending chargeable services to Ealing homes and schools for the management of their tree stock. Management of five staff posts, of which only four were filled, at the time. Regular staff meetings to address issues, and identify and pre-empt areas of pressure, to prevent negative effects on staff or service delivery. Mangement and implementation of the appraisal process to set staff objectives and manage performance. Budget management of annual value of £1,117k, of this £850k variable contract spend the balance is fixed cost. Ensuring all customer contacts (input, feedback, complaints) were responded to, and dealt with, within defined standards, and that satisfactory conclusions were reached. Responsibile for a Contract management and monitoring system, to gauge contractor performance. Providing senior technical support to tree officers on all tree related matters, and presentation to council members, or the public, or acting for the council, as an expert witness in court, regarding tree failure and subsidence matters.

Tree officer within a small team of employees and contractors to assist the Tree Service Manager deliver a service.Undertaking a routine inspection and management of council owned trees in line with complaints, tree safety concerns and the council Risk Limitation Strategy. Using a computerised tree management package on a tablet computer.Providing advice to the planning section regarding TPO, conservation area work applications and BS5837 surveys.Working as part of the Arboricultural section to manage and monitor work completed by Councils Arboricultural contractor.

Carrying out tree health and safety inspections within school sites in Birmingham, using computerised tree management systems.Assessment of trees for Tree Preservation Order (TPO) status and approval of works on TPO trees.

Managing a team of 4, in tree surgery and shrub removal, on a day-to-day basis. Providing cost estimates and advice to potential customers.Line managing 4 members of staff and liaising with the owner of the company, with regard to health and safety issues and training needs. Acting as mediator, in any staff disputes. Carrying out the day-to-day maintenance of machinery and equipment, and organising any servicing requirements.Liaising with County Council Officers in regard to contract management.

General day-to-day maintenance of estate land on all National Trust properties within Oxfordshire.
