While at BIMM Brighton I had the honour of being asked to play for the house band - my duties included part-writing for songwriters, learning pre-written parts within one or two listens and following directions from MDs, whether it be: melodies (often sung to me) that they would ask me to play; a general description of what they wanted to hear, including references to songs/artist; or tonal suggestions to fit the song. I would also have to learn covers and original songs for the end of term gigs that the uni would put on.
