About Ben Davison-Petch
I am a PhD student at the University of Cambridge, studying Physics. I develop numerical methods for the solution of hyperbolic PDEs as arising in fluid, solid and plasma dynamics, and my expertise is in writing high-performance, distributed memory and GPU-accelerated simulation codes in C++ for these physics-based systems.

Consultant Computational Fluid Dynamics Engineer
Consultant Computational Engineer
Computational Engineer
Developed and deployed a cutting-edge finite element code to simulate the temperature history of centimetre-scale metallic parts 3D printed by laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing (LPBF). The code is deployed on the largest supercomputer in the UK, and is able to fully utilise its available infrastructure. The development of this technology opened possibilities in defect prediction previously intractable, namely the investigation of the effect of the lasers' path during the printing process.

Student Intern
As an intern in the computational astrophysics group, I developed a python library to read, organise and analyse data from The 300 Project - a hydrodynamical simulation of 300 galaxy clusters. The data I was analysing had been passed through a structure finder, which condenses the raw simulation data into a collection of physical structures for a number of snapshots in time. These structures and their dynamics over time can then be analysed to study the formation of galaxy clusters.
