Ben D. Lim is a master's in real estate student at Cornell University. His study objective is to explore the direction that cities should pursue in order for people to enjoy enriched lives and a greater balance between online and offline worlds. In addition, Ben wishes to find an advanced role for real estate developers in the process of developing cities of the future to provide a harmonized human life with advanced technologies.Prior to Cornell, Ben studied architecture as an undergraduate and severed as an engineer officer in the Korean Army. After that, Ben started working for Samsung C&T and accumulated professional experience from international power plant projects in Saudi Arabia (Middle East) and Algeria (North Africa) for 9 years. Concurrently, he participated in the Global Commercial Expert Training Program and cultivated contractual and commercial knowledge in laws, contract, claim and dispute resolution, delay analysis, insurance and securities, and project and corporate finance.After returning back to Korea in 2017, Ben decided to develop a multifamily housing as his first personal real estate development and investment project based on thorough preparation including feasibility study and analysis of cash flow. Starting from surveying and contracting with the design and construction companies, he supervised overall construction work independently and actively engaged in design of interior and exterior in the way of attracting newly married couples as the main target for the rental units. In the end, the project was successful and he reached a higher than expected ROE by 118%.Accumulating global experience in the built environment in addition to the Baker Program in Real Estate, Ben hopes to build his career as a professional developer.
