Senior Development Engineer
Development Engineer
Development Engineer at Oxford Instruments Nanoscience, working in Technology Development on applied superconductivity projects.
Research Fellow
At the High Field Magnet Lab (HFML) I led a research and development programme to develop unique scanning probe microscopes for ultra-high magnetic fields and cryogenic temperatures. Together with my PhD student Lisa Rossi, and in collaboration with the SPM group of Prof. Alex Khajetoorians, we demonstrated tunnelling spectroscopy on graphite at a world-record 34 T, using our high-field STM (Review of Scientific Instruments, 2017). We used our specially-developed high-field SPM (Review of Scientific Instruments, 2018) to study the magnetoelectric effect in a frustrated spinel (Applied Physics Letters, 2020).
Post-Doctoral Researcher
In the group of Prof. Sander Otte, I used an ultra-high vacuum 300 mK STM (Unisoku USM1300) to study the spin states of individual magnetic atoms, using spin-polarised STM, and inelastic tunnelling spectroscopy. I was also involved in the commissioning of a new SPECS JT-STM ultra-high vacuum system, and the construction of a vacuum suitcase for sample transfer.
Post-Doctoral Research Associate
At the London Centre for Nanotechnology my research centred on scanning probe microscopy. During this post I rebuilt a low-temperature AFM, built by Attocube Systems. In March 2012 I spent one month working at Stanford University, in the group of ZX Shen, using AFM-based Microwave Impedance Microscopy to study charge order domain walls in layered manganites.
