Both my grandfathers were carpenters and my own Dad always had a garage full of tools, wood and projects on the go. I was pretty much born with sawdust in my mouth and carpentry is in my DNA, but I’m also hugely influenced by the rebel designers and architects of the 20th century who dared to propose that concrete and steel could be beautiful.I made my first piece of furniture out of concrete in 2002. I had bought a state of the art hi-fi and couldn’t find anything that I thought was good enough to put it on so I made my own stand out of concrete and glass. It was crude and brutally heavy, but I loved it. Its unyielding mass sealed its fate and 3 house moves later it ended its days in a skip, but it sparked a passion in concrete forming that has never gone away.Fast forward to today, and realising that I’d never be truly happy working in an office I resolved to follow my passion for making beautiful things. Ben Fredriksen Carpentry & Bespoke Furniture was born and I am finally able to fulfill my creative ambitions.If you like my work and would like to discuss a project for your home or garden I would love to hear from you.
