I've spent the majority of my career in warehouse operations and logistics, primarily in the wine business, which I entered initially due to the forklift skills that I obtained working for a ceramic tile importer/wholesaler early in my career. After wine import laws changed in response to 9/11, my job as Import Manager for a small wine importer/wholesaler was rendered obsolete. But life is circuitous. Upon returning to the Bay Area after a few years abroad, I contacted Merrick Dowson, my old boss from Adventures in Wine, for a reference and he ended up hiring me back on as Warehouse Manager. Merrick died of COVID-19 in April 2020. My colleague Erin Lamson has taken over the company, as Merrick was grooming her for his eventual retirement, and we have been working together to maintain his legacy.
