Technology Development Program AssociatePnc Aug 2015 - May 2016Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, UsAs an associate with PNC's Technology Development Program, I spent 2 months each exploring the roles of Infrastructure Analyst, Business Systems Analyst, and Application Developer. Infrastructure Analyst: In this rotation I worked with PNC's Network Operations Center, assisting them in notifying bank branches of impending dispatches from ISPs, assisting branches in restoring network connectivity, and coordinating with third party vendors if network connectivity could not be restored. In addition I assisted in migrating a Lotus Notes database to a Service Now Knowledge Base.Business Systems Analyst: For this rotation I worked with a team of business systems analysts within PNC's Corporate and Institutional Banking division. I sat in on daily standup meetings with BSAs and developers, attended retrospective meetings, and participated in an Agile training session. I also coordinated meetings with users, product owners, project managers, and business systems analysts to complete the discovery phase of a project which would take an existing Lotus Notes application and migrate its functionality into a new program under development.Application Developer: I spent this rotation with the Retail area of the bank working closely with the teams responsible for Virtual Wallet. I sat in on engineering team meetings, release status meetings, as well as design review meetings. I assisted the Retail area in preparing APIs for an internal hackathon by reviewing old hackathon documentation, testing our APIs, and making recommendations on how to improve documentation for future use. While a colleague was on vacation I also acted as the point of contact for the development and security teams while we were assessing a possible security flaw in a web application.Following this I choose the role of Application Developer for my Defined Track rotation.Defined Track 1: Application Developer for Asset Liability Management, Capital Markets, Finance, and Risk. -

Embedded Software Engineer Co-OpHuman Engineering Research Laboratories Sep 2013 - Apr 2014Pittsburgh, Pa, UsWorked to verify and alter the C firmware for an existing embedded design to handle data logging for new medical studies. Wrote multithreaded post processing code in Java to translate the collected raw voltage data into wheelchair usage data and how study participants used the wheelchair modifications, using good object oriented design principles to allow for code reuse in other studies. Designed a small circuit board in Altium Designer to house a separate micro controller to augment the functionality of the main data logger. Created a procedure to program a real time clock on an embedded design and produced all relevant code (Python with the PySerial library, Arduino code) and documentation. Microcontroller families used: Texas Instruments MSP430, Arduino (Atmel), PICGained a better understanding of the SPI protocol as well as the ADC and DAC processes.Received training and gained significant experience with soldering (through hole and surface mount), cable routing and strain relief, as well as wire connectors and crimp tools. Gained more training and hands on experience with an oscilloscope.Assisted in testing new circuit designs and seat detection methods.Received general lab safety training. -

Investigated and gave a presentation on the hardware testing procedures for a previous product to assist a contractor in better understanding our needs for a next generation medical device. Gained an understanding of the overall system architecture and how the subsystems worked together to operate as a complete unit.
