We steadily maintained at least 2 of the top 5 best selling shirts in the college bookstores, stadiums, and sports stores. Basketball Season was the driver in the state of North Carolina, with football in South Carolina. We filled the summer quarter by launching a surf and resort brand called OnlyShirt. I recruited one of the original designers from Ocean Pacific in California and an upcoming designer for Burton Boards out of Ireland. The apparel was super soft and American made. The goal was for the shirt to be the only shirt you would ever want and a disruptive new product to the established tourist shirt market. We signed up retail accounts from Washington DC on down the coast to Key West, sold at nice coastal shops. My initial background came from learning the market with a collegiate sportswear business in Athens, GA while working with New World Graphics as a business-development account rep out of the College of Charleston. I loved the roar of the crowd, energy, and people associated with the sports market. UNC was the #1 grossing sportswear license in the country and the geographic location presented the advantage of including Duke, NC State, and Wake Forest within an hour and a half drive. I flew out to check Boulder, Colorado for the beautiful location, but Chapel Hill won with the timing of Roy Williams taking the job as head coach. We earned success. Show less
