In the spring of 2010, I made a map of the ground that I grew up hunting in Western Pennsylvania for a Father's Day gift. That map served as a great tool for us throughout archery season, and soon enough Dad's friends were ordering maps from me. With these first few maps, HUNTERRA was born, and was officially established in February of 2011. As word-of-mouth spread, business slowly picked up.Fast forward to fall of 2013, and this fun hobby grew busier and started to demand more of my time, to the point where I was working two full-time jobs. Knowing that I couldn't keep burning the candle at both ends, my wife, Kate, volunteered to help keep HUNTERRA afloat while I was on a hunting trip. Arriving home, it was clear that I needed to build a team around the business, because our productivity and growth was exponential after she came on board. It was time to focus toward making that dream a reality.At the time, we were living in 30 miles west of Washington DC. Although that area allowed us to gain important skillsets that kickstarted a career, we knew it wasn't where the business needed to be located. On June 25th, 2014, we closed on our house, packed everything we owned into a couple PODS, and headed West.Some people think that I'm crazy for leaving a secure job. I would counter by saying, life is short and the opportunity to go after something you believe in doesn't happen in every lifetime. To not take a leap of faith towards a life-changing goal would be a great regret. I'll end with a quote that impacted my life. "Intuitively, we know that the best stuff in life isn’t stuff at all, and that relationships, experiences and meaningful work are the staples of a happy life."
