I am a registered mental health social worker with a previous career in social research and co-production. I am motivated by my passion for social justice; I believe that everyone should have access to the care they need. I take a human rights-based approach to my professional practice and this extends to my voluntary role with Social Worker Without Borders and my Masters dissertation on the impact of ‘no recourse to public funds’ on migrant women.Throughout my training and career I have worked in an integrated health and social care community mental health team, managing my own caseload and completing assessments of needs and risk while working closely with my multidisciplinary team. As a social worker in this setting I bring excellent legal literacy, regularly applying the Care Act 2014, Mental Health Act 1983, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Human Rights Act 1998 in my practice. In addition, I have experience and training in psychological and social work-specific mental health interventions including Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and the Connecting People model.
