A role for a project with the aim of improving recycling quality in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. This was conducted through the visual inspection of recycling bins across a recycling waste collection crew's routes. Contaminated bins were tagged so that they were not taken for collection, and were logged into a database with information on the property that owns the bin and the contaminants inside. Contaminated bins were tagged so that they were not taken for collection, and were logged into a database with information on the property that owns the bin and the contaminants inside. Admin duties were required, as Microsoft Excel was used alongside Word to identify properties that had been tagged multiple times and create letters to send to them. After a third letter, property visits were required to help the property owners avoid contamination in their bins. If a property was found to have contaminated bins after this, their bin was removed by the Greenwich Council.This project was a six-week pilot. I am yet to hear about results and conclusions, but drawing from the database I used, some improvements in recycling were observed. Show less
