I took part in two commercial construction projects with Heatherbrae. The first included framing in and around stacked sea cans for low income housing. I worked alongside multiple carpenters and smaller pieces of equipment. The second project provided me with more responsibility as I directed a small group of workers, provided crane signals for oversized glulam beams, operated scissor lifts and 4x4 extending fork lifts.

I was able to practice Spanish, coach and referee a very different style of hockey and hold clinics which allowed insight into highly developed Canadian hockey strategies and skills. Spending this time travelling and teaching helped me develop a great appreciation for the people and culture of Colombia.

My introduction to Carpentry began here with Chris Temple who owned Temple Timber Homes. With over 40 years of experience I was constantly absorbing as much information as I possibly could. He was an excellent teacher and instilled confidence in my abilities as I grew. Projects ranged from a timber frame golf course clubhouse to a 3 million dollar hotel rebuild to weekend renovations for local clients.
