Established in 2010 Japanese Knotweed Ltd (JKL) has become a recognised and trusted invasive weed contractor through the vision and dedication of its staff, a focus on customer care and provision of service products to meet the needs of its customers.JKL understand the impact and risk of invasive plants on land and property. Delivering management, herbicide control and excavation eradication services for land owners, commercial clients and residential property. The company are members of the Property Care Association’s ‘Invasive Weed Control Group’ (PCA).JKL are now one of the largest dedicated INNS control contractors in the UK. With over 6,000 customers we undertake over 8,000 herbicide works visits and 150 excavation projects per year. Works values of £150 up to projects of £1.4m. In 2020 the company turnover was £4.5m.Ben has worked in the invasive species control industry for over 17 years. In 2019 he helped in giving written and oral evidence to the Parliamentary Select Committee's inquiry into 'Japanese knotweed and its effects on the built environment'.From 2019 to 2021 Ben worked with the PCA, RICS and other leading industry stakeholders in the Leaders Forum developing and producing a new RICS Guidance note on Japanese knotweed risk/management for residential property. The work started here may have applications for assessing impact of other invasive species as well as knotweed.In 2021 Ben worked with Peter Fitzsimons (PCA Technical Manager Invasive Weeds) in drafting the PCA IWCG Guidance note: Japanese knotweed – Guidance for Professional Valuers and Surveyors. The PCA Guidance Note will be released as an industry guidance accompaniment to the RICS Guidance Note on Japanese knotweed, targeted at the residential property survey and valuation community.
