He currently works in Colchester and has worked in the NHS for nearly 10 years.Prior to his role as a doctor, Ben completed a Masters in Biochemistry and worked for GSK and UCB Pharma in R+D and marketing. He also completed a research fellowship at the Shands Cancer Centre, University of Florida.He has a keen interest in the neurobiology of neurodevelopmental disorders, especially the fields of neuroimmunology and metabolism. He is very keen to help advocate and advance the translation of science into treatments for children with neurodisabling conditions, particularly within the field of Autism.Ben has also a keen interest in teaching, and has completed a PGCME, and is currently studying for a diploma in Neurodisability through the BACD. He writes a regular research column for the 'Autism Eye'publication.

The Synapse Centre for Neurodevelopment ESNEFT (East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust) is a new research centre based in the East of England looking to translate biomedical research into practical therapies for local children and their families with conditions such as Autism, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy, Intellectual disability and Genetic syndromes. It will harness the collective skills of a range of professionals including clinicians, SLTs, physiotherapists and clinical psychologists, backed up by a research department with over 50 years combined experience to deliver research in the NHS. Whilst celebrating neurodiversity amongst its paediatric population, The Synapse Centre seeks to be at the forefront of new era of research seeking to investigate the effects of microbiome / gut-brain axis, immune-metabolism and functional genomics that can impact on brain development. The centre will target innovative new strategies of database acquisition and phenotyping through biomarkers and biometric data. The Synapse Centre for Neurodevelopment ESNEFT will be a collaboration between children, their families, schools, local academic institutions, biotech and pharmaceutical industry to find more personalised approaches to individual diagnoses. It aims to invigorate and transform research in this area to better understand and ameliorate the complex behavioural, developmental and medical comorbidities seen in many children with neurodisabilities.
