Responsible for all analysis, simulation and virtual validation for Ricardo's Global Automotive and Industrial business. Our team is made up of 60 highly skilled and experienced engineers working across all aspects of powertrain, vehicle and industrial applications, based in technical centres throughout Europe, North America and Asia. We engage in the following activities:- Hybrid and fully electric powertrain analysis (e-machine, inverter, battery, full system simulation - thermal, structural, NVH, electromagnetics)- Base engine analysis (0D, 1D, 3D, thermal, structural, dynamics, NVH)- Transmission analysis (structural, dynamics, NVH, system modelling)- Vehicle and chassis (structural, MBD, NVH, thermal, crash)- Performance simulation (1D thermodynamics, vehicle performance, energy management)- CFD, FEA, multi-body dynamics, system simulationMy role covers the following areas:- Management, resource planning and career development of a diverse and multi-functional team of consultant engineering analysts- Interface with the divisional Board, communication with and briefing of the team in-line with Board directives- Planning of departmental technology strategy and research – new in-house tools and techniques to be delivered balanced against turnover and utilisation targets- 23 years of experience in consulting: client management, communication and presentation- Technical ownership and responsibility for all analysis work delivered by the department into development projects, including peer review of analysis work, project audits to ensure adherence to process, ongoing project support and approval of analysis reports- Direct selling to international clients, preparation of quotations, technical scope, timing and costing for large engineering projects, customer meetings and presentation of bidding documents- Chief engineer on large development projects: coordination of all design, analytical and performance disciplines, delivery on time, quality and cost
