Home Shopping Section Leader
Home Shopping Section Leader
Helping open and run the new Home Shopping department at Luton store - One of the fastest growing areas of the business. Opening December 2021
George Section Leader
Fresh Replenishment Section Leader
After a few months in my role as a Home and Leisure Section Leader, I was offered the opportunity to do a lateral move onto a larger, more challenging department, Chilled and Meat. The first 4 months of my role was spent in Stevenage Supercentre, due to a fire at the Luton store on the 6th March 2017, closing it for a £7.6m refurbishment.Whilst in Stevenage I worked with the Chilled team to learn what my new role entailed, as well as the new Customer Availability Program process which was in trial in select stores, before a full roll out, including the Luton store, later in the year.In my role as the Fresh Replenishment Section Leader, I work with my counterpart Section Leader and my Fresh Replenishment Section Manager to lead our team to:- Ensure that we are legally compliant on date rotation and correct temperature control.- Ensure products that are going out of date code have effective markdowns, reducing waste.- Ensure excellent product availability for the customer.I am also responsible for carrying out compliance checks for my department, signing off compliance paperwork, and finding and rectifying any issues that appear. This is in addition to the general responsibilities of a Section Leader, detailed below.
Home And Leisure Section Leader
After a few months on the Ambient Process department, I was provided with the opportunity to step up and become a Section Leader on a department I know all too well, Home and Leisure. Section Leader's are a supervisory role and form part of the duty team. In my time on this role I had the following responsibilities:[Department Specific]- In times of fireworks trading, ensuring the legal paperwork is complete and that all checks have been made to ensure compliance with the licence granted by the local council.[General]- Being accountable of progress made by myself and my team. - Liaising with the other Section leader on the department, my line manager, and the duty team on what we as a department are doing/planning to do. In addition to taking on tasks from them that are deemed a priority. - Working with the other section leader and my line manager to ensure that rota's are kept up to date and follow the RPRPRT principles, (Right People Right Place Right Time), as well as ensuring a quick and fair turnaround of holiday requests, ensuring the department has a good level of cover.- Being jointly responsible (with the other Section leader on the department) for changing promotional ends every promotional period (every 3-4 weeks). On most occasions these are paid product placements by the suppliers, so 100% execution is essential to ensuring continuous funding.- Coaching colleagues on the dress code policy, product protection, the process wheel as well as the correct ways of working.- Celebrating success as a department and at colleague level in a meaningful way, taking advantage of the reward and recognition schemes for exceptional work.- As part of the duty team, assist other departments where demand requires it (such as produce and checkouts), and assist with change runs and accident investigations, where required. This is in addition to the responsibilities and tasks that a normal colleague level can perform, which are listed further below.
Ambient Process Colleague
I was moved to this position after my GSM (Store Manager) picked out that process work is a real strong point of mine. This role is essentially the same as the process work I did with the Home and Leisure department, but on a much larger scale (23 aisles compared to just 4 + the music and video area).Responsibilities include:- Process with a Telexon gun, which includes: + Ensuring that any price changes and label changes are swiftly actioned to ensure the store stays compliant with trading standards + Ensuring the perpetual inventory is a correct representation of the current stock + Ensuring that any stock that should be out on sale, is out on sale for the customer - increasing customer satisfaction + Ensuring that any lines that are out of stock are correctly marked as so, so that an order is generated for said items - increasing stock availabilityAs the Ambient Process department is closely aligned to the larger Ambient department, I regularly assist in working leftover delivery and overs pallets. In my tenure in this role, I have also occasionally assisted in the following:- Helping warehouse colleagues (and subsequently the night team) splitting down delivery pallets (that cover multiple aisles) into smaller pallets that are aisle specific.- Being a night colleague for 2 weeks to cover some colleagues booked holidays, ensuring that the store doesn't get adversely effected by colleagues on paid time off.- Being a helping hand on departments such as checkouts/self-scan, produce and chilled in times of high demand, high delivery or low workforce.
Home And Leisure Colleague
This was my first position in the ever moving world of supermarket retail, and has proven to be a source of great skill and personal development. My highest recognition of service to the company was being personally congratulated by the area manager of the Essex region when he performed a store visit in December 2015.My role was that of a General Merchandise / Home and Leisure store colleagueOver my tenure in this position I have been tasked with the following skills and responsibilities:- Replenishing stock- Assisting customers with their shopping- Offering extensive product knowledge to customers- Answering customer phone calls in a professional manner- Changing aisle layouts when required, following a layout plan/modular sheet- Working with external contractors and representatives in a professional manner- Replenish fireworks in a safe and legal manner- Ensuring products are adequately protected- Using the Rascal PDA to: + Accept delivery of newspapers and magazines from Smiths News every morning + Find and process product recalls and out of range items + Correctly log and process returns and the days newspapers every evening, ready for returning to the distributer- Process with a Telexon gun, which includes: + Ensuring that any price changes and label changes are swiftly actioned to ensure the store stays compliant with trading standards + Ensuring the perpetual inventory is a correct representation of the current stock + Ensuring that any stock that should be out on sale, is out on sale for the customer - increasing customer satisfaction + Ensuring that any lines that are out of stock are correctly marked as so, so that an order is generated for said items - increasing stock availability- When demand requires it, assist any other department within the store (e.g. Checkouts, Produce and Click and Collect) to ensure a efficient flow of stock/customers, and that a consistent level of customer service is upheld
