The 3-day international conference was located at Oxford University's Examination Schools. Effective Altruism Global X Oxford 2016 (www.eagxoxford.com) was run on behalf of the non-profit Centre for Effective Altruism on a budget of over £50,000 (of which over 80% was raised by my team).I built and managed the 14-person team. We brought entrepreneurs, academics, policymakers and philanthropists together to figure out how to best allocate our resources to ensure a positive future for humanity.Speakers included- Demis Hassabis (founder of Google DeepMind, creator of AlphaGo)- Derek Parfit (Oxford Philosopher, All Souls College)- Molly Crockett (Moral Psychologist, Yale)- David Goldberg (founder of 'Founders Pledge', partners with Y Combinator)- Alena Stern (Senior Program Manager at 'AidData')- Will MacAskill (Oxford University, World's youngest tenured Professor of Philosophy)- Matt Clifford, (co-founder of Entrepreneur First)- Ben Todd (founder of Y Combinator-backed nonprofit '80,000 Hours')- Niel Bowerman (Academic Director at the Future of Humanity Institute, Oxford University)- Nate Soares (Executive Director at the Machine Intelligence Research Institute)- Jess Whittlestone (former researcher at Behavioural Insights Team)and more.

Work took place at Sheffield University's "Computational Engineering Research Department" under supervision of Dr Sam Clarke and Dr Sam Rigby. Analysed a large amount of blast data pertaining to the impact of an explosion in shallow-buried soil. My placement was funded by a scholarship from the Nuffield Foundation.This was largely auto-didactic. I learned the basics of soil mechanics, MATLAB, and how to read engineering journal articles. The final report is attached.
