Following my freshman year at Freed-Hardeman University, I worked as a property management intern at Towne Properties, Cincinnati OH. My first week was spent running a leasing office at a local apartment community. I fielded all calls that came to the office and kept a detailed record for the leasing professional returning from vacation. The bulk of my time throughout the summer was dedicated to business-related tasks. I completed tasks in finance, marketing, real estate, and other disciplines.I revamped four communities' Facebook presence and created a simple handbook for each property manager to consult when using Facebook's business features.This individual property work led to a multiple week stint with the corporate marketing department. Working closely with a team, I edited websites, reviewed and edited digital marketing handbooks and responded to hundreds of resident reviews. My final project was developing an Excel model to track Google business listings and their level of completion. Mixed in with all these experiences, I conducted market research for the regional vice president and had the opportunity to observe owner site visits. As the summer progressed, I learned about how diverse a property management role can be. I painted apartments, serviced furnaces, cleaned gutters, and assisted wherever required. I was able to meet multiple maintenance professionals, and their knowledge helped me better understand the full scope of property management.
