Global Product & Innovation Manager
A globally facing role that reports to the Senior Director for Mainline Product Platforms. The role focuses on bridging between Global Marketing and Engineering to deliver our future mainline products and supporting technologies. By observing market trends I am required to build product and technology roadmaps, working across a wide series of stakeholders to secure R&D funding based upon established Customer and Business needs.Products within my portfolio include all ‘High Floor’ mainline trains globally including our most successful product AVENTRA. This responsibility covers the definition of the overall product strategy in several key markets including UK, Ireland, India, Australasia and South East Asia.I work with each local region to agree the product strategy for the opportunity, and then lead the delivery of a thorough business case to gain the approval to tender. I present these sales opportunities and the resultant product definition to the Senior Vice President for Product Management, which includes both technical and commercial content. In addition to this, I take the lead on innovation and digitalisation for the entire mainline trains market, obtaining R&D funding both internally and externally as appropriate.
Chief Engineer
East Midlands and West Coast Partnership Bids:After successfully leading the development and subsequent bidding of an Intercity Bi-Mode product based upon the AVENTRA Product Family, I was offered the role of Chief Engineer towards the end of the bid. Reporting directly to the Vice President for AVENTRA I was responsible for customer engagement in a series of BAFO rounds, in addition to kick-starting a Pre-NTP phase of engineering development with circa 30 Engineers reporting to me as technical authority for the design.Irish Rail DART Bid:The next bidding opportunity was for the Dublin Area Rapid Transit network. Again I operated as Chief Engineer, leading the early concept definition and attending several customer meetings with Sales. I also provided the required documents to support the internal governance necessary to secure the permission to bid. Ultimately I was responsible for leading the technical deliverables for the pre-qualification stage. We passed the stage with very positive feedback.CL 720 East Anglia Project:Following this, I was asked to step into a leadership role and support the £869 Million contract to supply 665 AVENTRA vehicles to Abellio Greater Anglia and Angel Trains as Deputy Chief Engineer.I represented the company at a senior level at meetings and negotiations with customer representatives from both Abellio and Angel. These meetings include both technical and commercial content. Operating with full delegated technical accountability from the Chief Engineer, I had the full mandate for resolving technical non-compliances against the specification as well as delivery of the requirements management and compliance work streams.Across all these assignments I have always formed a key part of the highly-communicative interface between Engineering and other internal stakeholders such as the Project Directors, Project Commercial Manager, Procurement, Operations, Bids Management and Sales.
