Graduated cum laude from Cal Poly, SLO (ranked the #1 public school in the western United States by U.S. News) in December 2016 with a B.S. in molecular and cellular biology. After working in industry for a short time, I returned to an academic setting to conduct research on how the cytokine profile of the human gut reacts to different bacterial loads and strains in an effort to define a novel probiotic. Following this project I accepted a position in the Parsons lab (no relation) at the Center for Infectious Disease Research in Seattle, WA. Here, I conducted largely independent, hypothesis-driven research to characterize an essential kinase in the parasite Trypanosoma brucei, the causative agent of African Trypanosomiasis (a fatal disease).In 2018 I returned to Cal Poly to pursue my MS in Regenerative Medicine. My time spent researching immune modulation and how the body reacts to different insults instilled in me an intense curiosity about how the human body regenerates, rejuvenates, or fails to do so as we age. To this end, I recently embarked on a full-time research internship at Rubedo Life Sciences. I am currently working to drive the discovery of novel anti-cancer and aging-related therapeutics.I have experience conducting CRISPR-based gene editing and CRISPRi assays, ELISAs, SDS-PAGE, protein and nucleic acid blotting, chromatography, FACS, PCR (quantitative, real-time, etc.), and cell culturing (eukaryotic and prokaryotic), among other molecular and microbiological lab techniques. I bring an energetic and collaborative atmosphere to the lab space, and deeply enjoy the whole of the scientific process, from the "huh, interesting" moment, to that moment's publication.
