My family (wife, 2 dogs and a cat) moved across the country in 2023 executing my wife's orders to be stationed at JBER for the next 3-4 years. I have been incredibly fortunate to join the team of project managers at the Alaskan Railroad Cooperation in the capital projects division working on the bridge rehabilitation program. Previous to this, I spent the 10 months (June 22 - April 23) working at Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations Wilson NC Plant as the Infrastructure / Facilities Mechanical Engineer. I entered this positions shortly after transitioning out of the military. Moving due to my wife's military orders is the cause for departing Bridgestone. The 10 months I worked at Bridgestone, every skill / task / responsibility / duty that I had was new for me. My goal was to develop myself as a young engineer and learn the manufacturing industry. I applied the skills I learned in the military to liaise between Production, Maintenance, and Engineering Departments, define scopes of work, request and manage budgets while coordinating and monitoring the progress of various contractors during capital and expense projects. I learned that Infrastructure and Facilities Engineering is very closely tied to maintenance. The asset classes that are maintained and upgraded are as varied and complex as the manufacturing processes that the infrastructure supports. Assessing the criticality of each asset and having strategies / plans for them can mean the difference between a regular day in the factory, or an unplanned shutdown. Post college graduation in May 2018, I commissioned as a Marine Officer attended TBS (in Alpha Company) and was assigned the MOS 7208 an Air Support Control Officer. Following the Aviation command and control school in Twentynine Palms I arrived at Marine Air Support Squadron 1 (MASS-1) in Cherry Point North Carolina. There, I served as a Command Legal Officer generating legal documents and managing punitive administrative processes in accordance with the Uniform Code of Military Justice. I deployed with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (24MEU) from Feb 2021 to Sept 2021, providing aviation command and control. Post deployment, I assisted MASS-1 with multiple small exercises and as the Command Legal Officer until the completion of my 4 year active duty contract.My college capstone was entering with a team of 4 in the DoE Net Zero Energy competition. We chose to develop and submit a design in the single family home category. I focused on lighting, interior spaces, electrical loads and the solar array used to power the house.
