As a Managing Consultant at E3 I managed complex projects for a diverse range of clients and other stakeholders, including electric utilities, regulatory agencies, state and local governments, and non-profit organizations, among others. These projects ranged in focus from technoeconomic analyses – such as cost benefit analysis and adoption modeling of DERs including electric vehicles, rooftop solar, battery storage, and smart thermostats – to policy and strategy work – such as helping regulatory agencies craft and implement policies and programs that meet legislative requirements while also balancing cost and equity impacts across diverse stakeholders.

I conducted a logistic regression analysis of various factors (e.g., natural gas prices, level of renewable penetration, emissions of local air pollutants) on recent thermal generator retirement decisions, to assess the impacts of each influence and how this differed across regional electricity markets. Past work by the Electricity Markets & Policy group drew correlations between these potential drivers and recent plant retirements; this regression analysis adds granularity and further confidence to the findings.In a separate project, I analyzed the effect of various retail rate design components on the economics of behind-the-meter storage, producing a white paper aimed at informing state regulators as to how different rate design structures interact with storage adoption.

I conducted a research project for the Office of Ratepayer Advocates at the California Public Utilities Commission. My research focused on the growing concerns around the "Risk of Retirement" of flexible generation resources - namely, how large of an issue this risk actually is, and what policy changes may help to alleviate these concerns and maintain grid reliability.

I worked with researchers at the Renewable & Appropriate Energy Laboratory and Lawrence Berkeley National Labs on a project modeling future electricity demand in California. I forecast growth in zero net energy buildings and distributed solar generation by county and climate zone, and modeled how much of these buildings' electricity demand can be met through distributed generation.

As part of a graduate student consulting team, I analyzed the market created by California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard. We evaluated market participants' perceptions of credit price volatility and its likely trajectory, and made recommendations as to how to improve market certainty to ensure long-term policy goals are reached.

I contributed research to a project focused on modeling the costs of photovoltaic manufacturing components in Mexico, with the aim of informing the Mexican Secretaría de Energía (the equivalent of the US Department of Energy) and other policymakers in their decisions as to how to best build out this industry in Mexico.

A main function of my supervisory role in Sunrun's Operations department was to drive cross-functional initiatives by convening stakeholders to create policies which improved project efficiency and fostered new business opportunities. I also researched and analyzed new markets to inform entrance strategy and process implementation, as well as overseeing and coordinating a team of three to effectively participate in all available state-level incentive programs. This included managing partnerships with state authorities and business partners to secure multi-million dollar annual SREC revenues, as well as advising upper management and our regulatory outreach team on challenges within various incentive programs to inform resolution strategy.

As a senior member of Sunrun's Operations Specialist and Incentives team, I focused on enabling my team to effectively secure state rebates and SRECs for our residential solar systems, primarily through program research and detailed process design. I also acted as an adviser for other teams and departments on incentives in various markets and how established operational processes would be affected by changes in policy. I also tracked and analyzed various installation and incentive metrics for the larger Operations department, which I converted into meaningful reports to drive operational improvements for both our internal team and our external partners.

In my first position at Sunrun, I worked with various electric utilities and installation partners to secure state rebates and Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs) for Sunrun's solar systems in various markets. I also managed an internal audit of numerous operational processes and used the results to drive improvements via procedural changes and efficiency-related process improvements.

Provided project support by researching potential clients and sustainable strategies applicable to their business models, and contributed content for presentations by president and founder Hunter Lovins. While working at Save Our Shores, I tracked pollution information derived from local beach clean-ups, as well as coordinating and leading volunteer and outreach activities, such as educational presentations and beach clean-ups. I also helped to drive awareness of marine pollution issues, engaging community members in a variety of settings to promote interest in the organization's work and informing them of effective manners in which to assist our efforts.

At La Selva, I assisted in the facilitation of a herpetological research project studying the effects of soil nutrients on species density. As part of this, I designed experiments, collected specimens, conducted lab work, and analyzed data. I also conducted personal research for my senior thesis investigating the impacts of certain faunal species on leaf litter habitats.

Additionally, I engaged a broad spectrum of community members during park events to drive participation in volunteer activities.
