I am a physicist specializing in atmospheric physics and climate modeling. As a doctoral candidate, I used models to explore the possibility that the tropical atmosphere could initiate abrupt climate change. As a postdoc, I worked to improve the modeling of turbulent cloud processes in the atmospheric boundary layer. As a Project Scientist at NCAR, I will continue to work toward improving boundary layers processes in the world-class CESM global climate model. In my spare time, I am working on a book on elementary physics for would-be theorists, and another book tracing egalitarianism and hierarchy in human societies from the hunter-gatherer period to the present day, with an eye on the question of whether a large-scale egalitarian society is possible.
