My primary responsibilities were to develop Research and Development related software including the internal and customer dashboards, and implement in-house research programs. While I worked in the area of Cognitive Psychology at OSU, my job was primarily to develop software applications for both Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) and the United States' Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR). Other time at OSU was spent co-supervising a student completing his Masters in Computer Science who went on to be employed by Yahoo, teaching students to program in Python, and publishing research.The work funded by Defense grants included:* Creating a Web-based application called Handles for the DRDC that facilitates users' searching, categorizing and visualizing high dimensional multi-lingual textual data, which has been trialed in Afghanistan. * Implementing and testing machine learning algorithms for inclusion in the Handles application. * Performing an empirical usability evaluation of the Handles application. * Making software modifications for the DRDC to a third party Web-based social network analysis (SNA) application called Assassin that required the inclusion of a more comprehensive selection of SNA statistics. * Creating tools for DRDC researchers that allow them to automatically generate targeted textual corpora from Wikipedia. * For the AFOSR, this year I created a life-logging android application, that automatically records data such as camera images, audio recordings, GPS, accelerometer and many other types of data made available by the android platform. Programming/scripting languages that I used on these projects include Python, Java, HTML5, Javascript, and C. Some other technologies used on these projects are linux (Ubuntu), Android SDK, Apache, Lucene (for indexing Wikipedia), NetworkX (SNA), and the Shogun machine learning toolbox.
