As a senior finance leader I’ve gained experience within organisations of various sizes and sectors. But what drives me is the common challenge across all. How do we make an organisation ‘better’ and by doing so improve financial metrics? Common themes emerge:• Bring finance and commerciality to all levels of the organisation.• Get critical information in a timely manner to those that need it.• Ensure working capital cycle managed to preserve cash. • Avoid being blindsided by unidentified commercial risk.• Ensure internal controls are robust and balance sheet well managed.• Ensure teams, including finance, are designed and lead to succeed.Ultimately finance should touch every corner of the organisation and to do this it needs to be dynamic, engaged and supportive. This is what I aim to foster, with diligence, in the organisations I’m fortunate enough to work within.
