I would consider myself a hard working person who is able to work effectively both within a team and individually. I have completed my BSc in Wildlife, Ecology and Conservation Science at UWE in Bristol. Throughout my course, I have gained vital skills in lab work, field work and project management. To begin with, I have taken part in several field trips to help develop my sampling skills, using quadrats and ID skills. These skills were built upon whilst completing and managing several projects. An example of this is was a project I took part in looking at pollinator activity in the morning vs. the evening in Snowdonia. The results of these projects were presented with scientific posters and presentations. Within the lab, I have completed a variety of different experiments. Many of these lab sessions have been working with micro-organisms. Through this, I have gained experience working with agar plates to grow bacterium as well as using microscopes to try to ID them. Taking part and managing several projects has allowed me some first hand experience in designing and carrying out a range of projects, for example looking at slow worm distribution is relation to distance to a body of water. Throughout these projects, I have had experience using excel, word and R studio to analyse and present findings.I have had the opportunity to work with eDNA, looking at Great Crested Newt DNA, in both collecting samples in the field and analysing the sample within a lab. As well as this, learning about the use of eDNA in the future of conservation and PCR testing.Completing my NCS course had allowed me to develop public speaking skills through presentation and discussing with local charities to raise money. As well as this, workshops during NCS has helped with gaining confidence with working in a team as well as building on individual skills, like time management and planning, which would help in a range of work environments.Achieving my Bronze D of E award has allowed me to learn from a young age how to work individually, by reading maps and planning routes, as well as working as a team with other people. To achieve my award, I learnt how to play the piano. This allowed me to maintain some discipline to be able to practise and achieve my grade one award. Working with a local charity who helped with children with disabilities work with farm animals was another aspect I achieved whilst completing my D of E award. This allowed me to gain some experience with working with vulnerable groups of people.I have a full clean U.K. driving license.
