Out of the ashes of The Publican magazine, two colleagues and I created and launched a new monthly trade title for the UK's pub landlords. Our aim was to bring some fun back into the trade press, with an accessible, people-focused mag and website. The publication became known for its high production values and picture-led content, and was nominated by the British Society of Magazine Editors for Launch of the Year. Eight years on, the title has expanded to offer social media and video content. The print edition continues to serve the sector with business-building ideas and inspiration, while offering a unique route to market for advertisers such as Diageo, Carlsberg UK , Sky Sports, BT Sport, Marstons and many more. During my time running the Inapub production desk I have:• Been responsible for all page layout and subbing for the print mag* Recruited a crack team of freelance subs and designers and managed their work remotely• Written features and columns, including a mission to the UK's most remote pub• Organised workflows to make sure everything gets published on time• Redesigned the mag to freshen up the look after four years in print• Built relationships with journalists, agencies, photographers, illustrators, printers and mailing services• Set up and managed html mailshot programme• Renegotiated print and distribution deals, saving the title around £50k a year• Appeared on international TV news as a competitor in the World Toe-Wrestling Championships
