Automation Technologist
CurrentWorking within a multidisciplinary team, act as an Automation Technologist to design, retrofit, and troubleshoot electrical controls for various electrical, instrumentation, and automation projects, primarily within the defense and marine industries.• Draft preliminary and detailed hardware designs, including system block diagrams, schematics, and scaled layout drawings, in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical for both new equipment installations and retrofit of existing equipment.• Select and procure project equipment and materials, including motion control systems, sensing, and signal processing, ensuring compatibility with projects’ needs. Generate bills of materials (BOMs) in Excel, incorporating advanced formulas and complex conditional formatting for cost reporting and inventorying.• Build and retrofit industrial control panels per design documentation, program PLCs and motor drives (VFDs), perform applicable electrical/controls testing and troubleshooting.• Manage projects, attending routine meetings with clients while providing project updates, responding to project correspondence and concerns, writing design proposal reports and compiling client deliverables, preparing engineering, labor, and equipment cost estimates, while consulting with colleagues and various vendors.𝗔𝗱𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹, 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗱𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀:• Act as the facility electrical capabilities SME, coordinating with project leads as needed to plan lab workspace usage wrt/ electrical requirements, designing lab electrical upgrades, engaging with third party electricians as needed, identifying/resolving lab electrical code deficiencies, and enforcing lab electrical safety practices (lock-out/tag-out).
