Following graduation at Liverpool John Moores University, I secured a laboratory scientist position at Medicines Discovery Catapult. Here, prepared Covid-19 samples were for PCR tests. My role included operation of lab equipment such as Bio-safety cabinets, Hamilton auto-pipettes, and Integra Auto-pipettes, as well as preparation of solutions and reagents required for sample testing with care and precision. I worked with motivation and enthusiasm to consistently deliver against high-volume testing targets. I also maintained spotlessly clean, tidy working areas to deliver accurate, methodical working practices. Continued adherence to laboratory safety protocols, Good Clinical Practice, Standard Operating Procedures and current Good Manufacturing Procedures was essential to this role, which I always ensured to follow. I had responsibility to receive, sort and label clinical samples carefully, following strict laboratory regulations. Further, I stored chemical and biological materials appropriately. I routinely serviced and cleaned lab equipment in line with manufacturing instructions. As a Level 2 Laboratory Scientist, I took on the additional responsibility to lead rooms. Here, I would supervise rooms and provide support for operators, taking responsibility for not only my own, but other people's safety as well.
