Interned at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. in 1974-1975, followed by my first assignment at Ft. Benning Georgia (1975-1978) where I created the Learning Abilities Center for children (3-14) with learning disabilities, developmental coordination disorders, and developmental delays emphasizing the OT-SI approach as well as skills development for adolescents. This was a parent-child collaborative clinic in which parents worked with the therapists in a "co-therapist" role. In 1979, appointed as Instructor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at Eastern Michigan University, left in 1980 to work in varied practice areas including the public school system, outpatient rehabilitation, and home health care. Returned to EMU in 1986, left for WMU in 1999 and retired July 1, 2017 . Co-Founded the SW Michigan Children's Trauma Assessment Center at WMU. Served as Co-Director, Interdisciplinary Teacher Education Program, College of Health and Human Services.In addition, I am a co-founder of the Brain Research and Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Lab (BRAIN LAB) at WMU.Served on national committees (American Occupational Therapy Association) including Chair, Physical Disabilities Special Interest Section and Member, Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education. Also served as V-P of the Michigan Occupational Therapy Association for several years. Specialties: Assessment and treatment of pediatric conditions including physical disabilities and sensory processing disorders with focus on children with prenatal (FASD) and post natal trauma (chronic abuse and neglect).Curriculum development, design and evaluation; instructional system design and technology. I am currently a consultant to the OTD Program at the University of Michigan and continue to serve as Managing Editor of the Open Journal of Occupational Therapy (www.ojot.org) which is the world's only open-source journal in occupational therapy.
