With more than 400M Spanish speakers in the world, I recognized a need to offer a conversational AI solution in Latin America. Armed with a freshly minted graduate degree in Marine Affairs, I took my passions for sales, technology and computer science and built an artificial intelligence tool. My idea was simple enough: Connect people who wanted to buy cars with people who had cars for sale - car dealers. I started mining user-generated content for leads, which I sold to automotive dealers.AutoFerret.com crawled sites with user-generated content, searching for buying signals and matching those hits with local automotive dealers. That might have been enough, but when I discovered that some of my customers were not effectively working those leads, I had an idea for a different invention. I hypothesized that we could use Artificial Intelligence to reach out to those car buyers so the dealerships could spend time with customers in their showroom instead of on the phone or sending emails. My hypothesis turned out to be correct and I discovered that the technology was more powerful and broadly applicable than I had imagined.AutoFerret.com developed an award-winning SaaS technology that leveraged AI to engage prospects and identify hot leads for car dealers. It is the world’s first AI Sales Assistant, AVA.By 2010, AutoFerret.com had secured its first AVA clients and was handling at least 20,000 leads a month. In this role, I developed my startup philosophy that a happy team turns out a better, stronger work product. I modeled and cultivated the leadership traits I value, including treating people well and dismissing people who didn’t support the team.In 2013, I secured a $16M private equity investment from Kennet Partners.
