A “key contributor to the planning, negotiation, and initiation of strategically significant coordinated operations along the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan,” Brink was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and recommended for promotion to Flag.Commanded four Reserve Units during Navy career. Member Navy Reserve since discharge from active duty in 1977, with significant periods of mobilization during reserve career. Brink reached the enlisted rank of Quartermaster First Class before receiving his commission in 1980. Personal decorations include: Bronze Star Medal; Meritorious Service Medal (2); Navy Commendation Medal (2); and Navy Achievement Medal (2).

Recruited to bring his technology company turnaround experience to the government to ensure the successful ramp to production of the new US biometric passport, Brink led the USGPO Secure and Intelligent Documents Business Unit, guiding the agency’s businesses for e-Passports; smartcards; PKI (Public Key Infrastructure); and document transfer and authentication. Under Brink’s leadership the USGPO brought the e-passport into production, growing its passport business from $26M in 2006 to over $390 M 2007, while at the same time implementing new technologies, transforming the product from a printed booklet to an electronic smartcard system in book format. By early 2008 the e-passport accounted for over half of the agency’s expected revenues. (On military leave after Oct. 2007).
