Part Of The Unesco-World Heritage "Hufeisensiedlung"
Suitable for up to four guests, the award-winning TAUTES HEIM (Taut’s Home) is a real-life experience of design history. The house-garden ensemble is a hybrid between a museum and an auratic holiday accommodation. It is located in the iconic "Hufeisensiedlung" (Horseshoe Estate) designed by the German architect Bruno Taut in 1925-30. Since 2008 the estate is part of the UNESCO World Heritage "Berlin Modernist Housing Estates". Our project TAUTES HEIM was frequently appreciated by the press, various media and TV stations. It was designed to give architecture lovers a chance to enjoy and experience the genuine interior colors and very clever room layouts designed by Bruno Taut – one of the most important residential architects of emerging modernism. Although the site is completely restored and furnished in the style of the 1920s, it is equipped with all the modern amenities and can serve as a comfortable vacation home, too. It shows a great passion for historic details and vintage interior design. The accommodation includes 200 square meters large garden with a terrace and a small reference library of Bauhaus architecture in Berlin. Besides, we also offer guided tours through the estate for our guests (or other groups on request)"Taut´s Home" is a completely private project initiated, designed and run by Ben Buschfeld together with his wife, landscape architect and garden monument expert Katrin Lesser. Berlin Dessau Weimar + Associated Partner Cities In Germany And Europe
CALL-FOR-PARTNERS: The event format was launched in 2013 and is currently looking for partners from/in other European cities for the edition years 2022 and 2025. The event initially focussed on architecture from the 1920ies that is related to the the UNESCO World Heritage sites in Weimar, Dessau and Berlin. Ben Buschfeld helped to establish the event from the scratch. Since 2013 he is in charge of the overall communication for all three cities. Together with Robert K. Huber from zukunftsgeraeusche GbR he takes the role of a co-organizer and -curator for the program in Berlin since 2019. For the upcoming event years 2022 + 2025 the Triennial of Modernism (#triennaledermoderne) is aiming to get a broader historic, multidisciplinary and transnational focus. To do so, we are currently trying to extend the network and start addressing other protagonist throughout Europe. The goal is to gather partners to apply for EU funding for 2022 and 2025 in the CREA program. The ideal setting is to have at least one municipal, one institutional and one civil partner per city. Besides our own research we are happy for proposals, contacts and initial links via LinkedIn.The German backbone is based upon a cooperation of various partners, including • #Landesdenkmalamt Berlin (LDA),• #zukunftsgerauesche GbR (zkg),• #StiftungBauhausDessau (SDB), • #KlassikStiftungWeimar (KSW), • #Architektenkammer Berlin (AKB), • #BauhausArchiv Berlin (BHA)• #visitBerlinas well as 20-30 independent project partners and civil organizations in BerlinIn 2022, the Berlin curators started the "European Triennial of Modernism (ETOM)" – an initiative to build up a cooperative network of partners from Central Europe. 2018 was the European Cultural Heritage Year, which provided the opportunity to acquire public funding for the design and development of a large educational website about the six UNESCO-listed "Berlin Modernist Housing Estates". They were drafted in response to the great housing shortage of the early 20th century and provided a worldwide acknowledged model. The designation as UNESCO World Heritage sites is also accompanied by the requirement to provide information on the sites in an appropriate form. The historically multi-faceted and today's topical subject of social housing construction is to be attractively presented on this website for interested citizens, young adults and visitors. The mighty website contains:• Texts and photos on all six estates• Interactive Maps and tours of all six estates• Descriptions of about 35 individual places• Introduction to the history of Berlin• about 40 stories and anecdotes about the settlements• glossary with ca. 60 entries• about 25 biographies• only in German version: about 25 topics, each with several Tasks for study, school and project instructionTOPICSThe bilingual (dt./engl.)website is suitable for smartphones and desktop PCs. The historic and architectural content is enriched with additional information in the areas of urban, contemporary and cultural history, thus conveying a broad spectrum of information about the 1920s - an era that had a decisive influence on the urban structure and self-image of Berlin. With the virtual tours, housing estate specific questions and topic-related tasks, this website can and should be used in youth and adult education. 90% of the content was written, designed and photographed by myself. TOURSAfter conducting all this research I also started to guide tours – on regular basis in the Hufeisensiedlung, in six estates of the 1920s on request.
