Engineering support and guidance for Product Design Engineering 3rd year studio based classes, primarily for the subject 'Design for Social Responsibility'. The class is run as a semester long project and aims to have students develop a product using circular economic principles from the outset.My role is in developing and delivering content, project guidance, technical feedback, workshop and prototyping support as well as marking and assessment.

I operate a small business after hours offering a variety of design related services such as mechanical design, 2D drafting, 3D modelling, prototyping, functional reviews and documentation such as user manuals. Projects undertaken have been in varied industries such as building/construction and electrical, personal luggage, homewares and baby furniture as well as beauty related products. In general all projects I've consulted on have required some sort of mechanism or complicated mechanical function to be resolved.I have years of experience designing sheet metal components, machined metal components, fabricated components, complex assemblies, pneumatically activated equipment, jig/fixtures as well as a range of plastic moldings.I work on designing pragmatic solutions that are considerate of budgets, available resources and process and the needs of the customer/end users. Returning to the New Product Team my new projects all involve implementing acoustic upgrades to the Lotus slider suite and helping to develop a high and low spec offer to be more agile when bidding for jobs.

I stood in to temporarily oversee the Bespoke Design function at Lotus for a time in order to help improve the way custom projects were handled by the business from start to finish.As the Bespoke lead I managed the design department responsible for the technical resolution of projects requiring customisation.A key achievement for me during this time was being able to improve the reporting metrics and implemented a company wide dashboard to display these metrics to the entire business. I also helped to improve processes around grading custom requirements for better demand planning as well as ensuring projects requiring non-standard designs were identified earlier in the process helping to reduce delays in production.I also had a full-time design workload for this role and lead the majority of the design work for the Bespoke team in general, and usually worked on the delivery of major projects for the business.

Hired to start the New Product Development team at Lotus, I worked on developing new products and product upgrades for Lotus' range of glazed sliding doors.Using a highly empirical methodology of "build, test, learn" quick turn around of complex product outcomes were achieved.A key product enhancement I designed was the integration of a glass clamping system into the Lotus sliding door profiles to ensure Lotus' glazed sliders could utilise any type of glass without the need to change the existing construction, installation and sizing options offered.I also lead the development of a DDA compliant braking system for sliding doors, this was Lotus' first patented technology and involved removing energy from a moving door to increase safety while maintaining smooth operation and providing zero additional friction in the opening direction.Other innovations that I worked on involved the suspension of our sliding and operable walls where I worked on a range of options for boosting weight capacity and also lowering friction to improve usability.

Design of products and solutions for the plumbing, roofing and civil water industries. I play an active role in setting design direction and adding value and innovation to product designs.Development of several product designs for civil street ware including an innovation patent for a modular valve/hydrant cover and a set of marker posts that are over 4x lighter than the competitors.Developed several plastic packaging options for a range of consumable products. The focus being on elevating the product with innovative packaging that serves a purpose in making things easier for the end user.Development of various procedures, upgrade of the FQC (final quality control) documentation to be more proactive with ensuring quality expectations from suppliers are met.IP leader for the business, liaise with our legal partners to develop tailored strategies to best protect our intellectual property.

Design of mechanical engineering solutions for the healthcare and waste disposal industries. Lead projects from idea through to installation.Create and maintain technical documentation procedures including administration of our file vault, engineering change process and drawing release process.Collaborate with suppliers, contractors and other departments to coordinate tasks and ensure quality project outcomes.Travel to US based sites to test equipment and identify areas of improvement, both mechanically and operationally.Mentor of industry based learning student engineersMay 2016 - January 2017 I was on secondment to the National engineering team to assist with the Air Quality Control System (AQCS) upgrade of their NSW incinerator plant. I was project lead for multiple aspects of the AQCS upgrade totaling $250K+ and successfully delivered multiple projects. The largest of these projects was a support structure and walkways for a 10m x dia.3m quench vessel as well as the pneumatics control and supply for the entire AQCS.

Hired as a graduate, I undertook projects in the Daniels product, quality and mechanical engineering teams.Multiple new product designs completed and taken from idea to manufacture including a registered design for a cart mounted bag holder.Co-project Leader for the largest machine design project the company has undertaken, designed and built a prototype of the new Daniels “Washsmart” machine which would see improvements of 100% throughput and be more efficient with water usage.Traveled to China & USA to establish new suppliers assembly lines and sign off for production start on various productsRe-designed the assembly process and line for the production of the Daniels range of medical waste collectors reducing total assembly time by 50%QA Lead for multiple suppliers (both domestic and international)
